§ 11-8. Penalty, additional tax for failure to obtain license.

  • If any person shall commence to exercise any privilege or to promote any business, trade or employment or profession or to do any act requiring a license under this chapter without obtaining such license, he shall be punished as provided in section 11-9. If such failure, neglect or refusal to apply for and obtain such license is continued, such person shall pay an additional five (5) percent of the amount of such city license tax which was due and payable at the commencement of the business, trade, employment or profession or doing of the act, in addition to the city license tax imposed by this chapter, for each thirty-day period that such city license tax remains unpaid for thirty (30) days after the date that the tax was due and payable. This additional tax will be a minimum of five dollars ($5.00) with any additional monthly penalty not exceeding twenty-five (25) percent of the original tax. Exemptions from penalty will be at the discretion of privilege license supervisor. This penalty is for existing businesses or unlicensed businesses already in operation prior to the current licensing year.
