§ 19-28. Composition; appointment of members; term of office.

  • (a)

    The planning board shall be composed of twelve (12) members. In accordance with G.S. 160A-362, the total membership of the planning board shall be proportional to the population of residents of the city and residents in the extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ) area. City members shall be appointed by the city council and extraterritorial members shall be appointed by the county board of commissioners at the request of the city council or as provided by law.

    (b)

    The members of the planning board shall be appointed to staggered three-year terms of office, except, in the case of a vacancy occurring during a term, such vacancy shall be filled by the governing body having such authority to make such an appointment for the unexpired portion of such term or as provided by law.

    (c)

    The terms of office shall expire on March 31.
