§ 24-1. Definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this chapter, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    City-owned or city-controlled property means the property owned or leased by the city and property over which the city has an easement for public purpose.

    Landscape manager means the person designated by the city to be qualified through formal education or practical experience in the fields of urban forestry, arboriculture or horticulture and who is capable of administering a complete urban tree management program.

    Large tree means any tree over fifty (50) feet at maturity.

    Medium tree means any tree between thirty (30) and fifty (50) feet at maturity.

    Park trees means trees, shrubs and bushes in public parks having individual names, and in all areas owned by the city or to which the public has free access as a park.

    Right-of-way means the strip of land over which the city has the right to construct a street, sidewalk or use for public utilities or landscape with plants for any other public purpose.

    Small tree means any tree under thirty (30) feet at maturity.

    Street trees means trees, shrubs and bushes on land lying within rights-of-way on either side of all streets, avenues or ways within the city.

    Vegetation means any living plant or group of plants such as a tree, shrub or ground cover.
