§ 3-15. Grave ledgers.

Latest version.
  • The provisions of this section shall apply to grave ledgers in Memorial Park, Chestnut Hill, and Oakwood Cemeteries. Only one (1) ledger may be placed on any one (1) grave. The material of the ledger shall be granite or marble of good quality. No grave ledger shall be placed on top of any grave in which interment was made in a container made of a material that will decay. The top of the ledger shall be installed on a concrete base which is the same width as the vault. The length of the base shall be twelve (12) inches longer than the length of the ledger, and the depth of the base shall be a minimum of twelve (12) inches below ground level. This base shall be supported with a minimum of four (4) posts having a minimum diameter of four (4) inches each and spaced a maximum of forty-two (42) inches from center to center of the posts. The posts shall rest on two (2) opposite edges of the vault. No grave ledger shall extend above the top of the ground. This section shall not apply to crematory remains or infant graves that require a much smaller opening for burial purposes. The undisturbed ground around these two (2) types will provide ample support without the need of additional support posts.
